From Triumph to Survival: My Fight for Myanmar

 

In my 20s, my life was a story of triumph. I was a young entrepreneur at the pinnacle of success—a celebrated public figure and a pioneer in Myanmar's beauty pageantry. As a symbol of hope for countless young people, I brought our nation onto the global stage, creating opportunities that empowered women and inspired the next generation. My mission was clear: to drive positive change in Myanmar.

But in February 2021, everything changed in an instant. The military coup shattered the life I had built. Because of my outspoken activism in the fight to restore democracy and fundamental human rights in Myanmar, I became a target. I went from being a respected leader to a hunted fugitive, forced to abandon everything I knew and loved. Under constant threat of arrest, I fled my homeland, seeking refuge in the United States to survive. In that moment, I lost not just my career but the foundation of my life.

Now, as a political refugee, I continue to fight for Myanmar from afar. The people I care about are suffering—CDMers, IDPs, and innocent children and civilians caught in the crossfire of a brutal regime. Despite the distance, my commitment to them remains unwavering. With the help of my global network and the tremendous support of my fans and followers, I have successfully raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide critical aid to those in desperate need.

 

Believing in the power of education to rebuild our nation, I took the next step by founding New Generation Myanmar (NGM). This virtual school is my answer to the critical educational challenges facing our country, dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality education to students across the nation, even in these difficult times. Through NGM, I strive to create opportunities for the children of Myanmar, ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to build a brighter future.

Currently, the school is successfully offering a range of programs, including K-12 education, GED preparation, and language courses, reaching to thousands of students online, ensuring they can learn safely and without interruption despite the challenges they face. Through this initiative, I have been able to touch countless lives and empower the next generation to shape a better future for themselves and for Myanmar. This milestone reflects the resilience of Myanmar’s youth and the transformative impact of education.
